Monday in University Park

Monday in University Park leads to some super obsessive thoughts and stands squarely between myself and a finished column. Help. Me.

  1. Earlier today I had to interact with a guy who said “8:30 a.m. in the morning” about a bajillion times. I know that a.m. means morning. Is he stupid or does he think I’m stupid? It’s one or the other.
  2. There was no crossing guard in front of McCulloch Intermediate today. And since it was raining, it was particularly slow and painful. Can we get someone to be in charge of this? Other than me.
  3. OK, I get it. Some men find it necessary to spit a whole lot. But why do they open their car door to do it? Something wrong with the window? Or waiting til you get out of University Park?

I feel your pain on the “am in the morning”. More prevalent but equally irksome is verbalizing “am/pm” when it is obvious whether it’s am/pm. I have noticed exclusively among Asians and those who are frequently in their company.

Por ejemplo: “I’ll be at work TONIGHT until 8pm.”

HELLO em-effer? Redundant much? Ok, I’m calm.

P.S. I only spit east of central, by rule.

In my lifetime I’ve only heard a few people reference “a.m.” or “p.m.” in conversation. They are the same people who ask if you’d like a beverage when you are visiting at their house and ask to use the “lady’s room” when they are visiting yours.

These people also tend to say things like “let’s interface about that at our next meeting,” or “wasn’t it wonderful our children were able to interact!”

I think most of them work for the TSA or wish they did.

@Cynic…….”asking to use lady’s room” is a the polite way to ask for the crapper!!!!! Ask Miss. Manners if you don’t believe me.

“stands squarely between myself and a finished column.” So, “A.M in the morning” bothers you, but using myself to refer to yourself doesn’t? How about “stands squarely between ME and a finished column”?

Actually, the polite way to take care of those personal needs is to ask your host the location of the “powder room”. And one doesn’t ever refer to it as the c******, even while explaining to others how to use the more polite term. Just ask Miss Manners.

@chanteuse..// Hahaha, got it. Just having a little fun. I just get irritated with people (Cynic) that stereotype. I thought my C****** comment would make at least make them wince since I know I can’t change how they are. But thank you just the same, you are right and I was just awful 🙂

Umm, guys, normal people just say “where’s the bathroom?” at someone’s house (they do NOT say “home” and God help them if they say “powder room.”)

And unless you’re a steward on an airplane, don’t ask someone if they’d like a “beverage,” for God’s sake. Offer them a drink!
