Lamplighter Trustees Name One of Own as Interim Head

As of last year, Judy Gass was a member of the Lamplighter School’s board of trustees. As of Aug. 1, she will be the head of school–at least for the next year. Gass, who honed her administrative chops at ESD, Hockaday, and St. John’s Episcopal School, will fill Arnold Cohen’s troubled shoes as interim head of school. Per today’s release from Lamplighter:
Lamplighter is pleased to announce that Judy Gass will serve as the Interim Head of The Lamplighter School effective August 1, 2010.
Mrs. Gass brings nearly 40 years of independent school experience to Lamplighter. She began her distinguished career in education as an elementary school teacher, working in both low income and affluent communities.  Since then she has held numerous administrative positions at The Episcopal School of Dallas and The Hockaday School.  During her tenure at Hockaday,  Mrs. Gass held the positions of Director of Admissions,  Head of Lower School, and Interim Head of Upper School. Most recently she served as the Interim Head of St. John’s Episcopal School in Dallas.
“We are excited to have Judy Gass as our Interim Head of Lamplighter. She is a distinguished educator with a record of respected leadership in independent schools,” said Karen Pollock, Chair of The Lamplighter Board of Trustees. “She is not only familiar with the culture of Lamplighter, but also possesses the wisdom, strength, enthusiasm, and communication skills to lead us smoothly through this transition.”
As an advocate for children and the arts, Mrs. Gass has been involved with the Jubilee Center, David’s Place, ArtReach, and The Dallas Children’s Theater. She has also served as a trustee for Educational First Steps and The Lamplighter School.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as the Interim Head of The Lamplighter School, and I look forward to an uplifting and productive year,” commented Mrs. Gass. “Lamplighter has a well deserved reputation of providing academic excellence in a warm, nurturing environment.  It is an honor to partner with the faculty, staff, parents, alumni,  and trustees to ensure that the vision and mission of the School remain as strong as ever.”
