Overheard at NorthPark Center …

In a throwback to this blog’s predecessor, here’s something I overheard at NorthPark Center on Sunday: A woman was standing in front of a mall directory on the ground floor and said to her male companion, “Oh, this is Level One, and that [pointing up] is Level Two.”

Really? One adult needed to explain that concept to another one?

Maybe they were British and thought the second floor was called the first floor.

Or maybe they were looking for a store and just realized they were on the wrong floor.

Anyway, sounds like something I would say.

There are circumstances when US building directories may require explanation: many Latin Americans, Europeans, Middle Easterners and Asians would refer to our “first” floor as the “ground” floor and our “second” floor as the “first”.

A good thing to remember the next time you’re looking at a shopping mall directory in Europe or some exotic locale. 🙂

What about a mentally challenged person needing to know where there were? I have heard that said before many times in San Francisco Hotels by tourists.

or maybe they were just that dense. <—most likely

like the lady at the post office who offers up, "you know I was here on Wednesday, and there was also a line like this."
