Several Highland Park athletes punched their tickets to state at University Interscholastic League swimming and wrestling competitions over the weekend.

The Blue Wave girls, who are shooting for their 12th Class 4A state title in 13 years, won the Class 4A Region III Meet in Frisco with 441 points. Frisco, which won state two years ago, was second with 427 points. The girls won nine events — including all three relays — to automatically qualify for state. The boys finished third with 273 points. Frisco Wakeland won the meet with 428 points.

In Houston, Highland Park’s wrestling team thoroughly dominated the Class 4A Region III Meet. The Scots won five weight classes, got second in four weight classes, and fourth in three weight classes. Ten Highland Park wrestlers qualified for state.

The state wrestling tournament is Feb. 21-23 in Austin, while the state swim meet is Feb. 22-23 in Austin.
