DUNCANVILLE — Highland Park cleared its first Class 6A playoff hurdle on Tuesday without much difficulty. The Lady Scots cruised to a four-set win over Irving MacArthur in the Region II bi-district round, 25-12, 25-6, 15-25, 25-8.

The third-set hiccup was mainly the result of HP removing its starters to allow more players to share in the postseason experience. But when the first-teamers were on the floor, the Lady Scots (29-15) dominated both at the net and the service line.

“I felt like they stayed pretty focused and they were executing well,” said HP head coach Michael Dearman. “In the fourth game, they responded well.”

HP assumed control early in each of the sets they won, consistently forcing the Lady Cardinals (20-20) to scramble for points. In each of those sets, the Lady Scots took a double-digit lead by the midway point.

In the area round, HP will meet Sachse, which swept Killeen on Tuesday. That match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Plano East.

“Getting that first one out of the way is always good,” Dearman said. “We’re playing really good right now, and that’s what you want.”
