Longtime coach David Shepherd is no longer in the dugout, but the playoff success at W.T. White is continuing.

Under new head coach Matt Whatley, the Longhorns are in the playoffs for the 33rd consecutive year. And for the first time since 2011, they’ve reached the second round.

White snapped a string of three straight bi-district exits by upsetting Mesquite Horn in two games last weekend. That sets up an Class 6A Region II area round series against Rockwall that begins today at Tillery Field in Mesquite.

The Longhorns used sharp pitching from Carson Bradley and Henry Mikkelsen to shut down the Jaguars 2-1 in the first game and 4-1 in the second game. Now they will face a Rockwall team that has won 11 straight games, including a sweep of Copperas Cove last weekend.
