RIP, Margot Winspear

Margot Winspear died on Wednesday at age 83 following a lengthy illness at a Dallas assisted-living facility. Yet her legacy will live on in the local arts community, due in large part to the opera hall that bears her name.

Winspear and her late husband, Bill, provided a $42 million donation that put their name on the Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, which remains the home of the Dallas Opera and other shows.

The Dallas Morning News has a more detailed obituary for Winspear, whose family has extensive ties to Preston Hollow.

Winspear’s passion for music and philanthropy included a longtime role on the Dallas Opera board, an endowment for the music college at the University of North Texas, and donations for Alzheimer’s research at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
