SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: CAN’T CUT IT

9214997037086In the time it took a worker to park his pickup truck after unloading his tools at a construction site at Highland Park Village, someone took his red Hilti band saw valued at $550. The theft was discovered at 1:48 p.m. Aug. 24.

HIGHLAND PARK

21 Tuesday
Breaking and entering was apparently too ambitious a crime for whoever shattered a rear window of a 2013 Dodge Ram in the 3400 block of Potomac Avenue. Police said it appeared the culprit didn’t go into the pickup truck and that nothing was taken. The damage was discovered around 8:30 a.m., but the owner remembered her dogs barking at 1:30 a.m.

Reported at 11:46 a.m.: a 2016 Lexus GX460 parked in the 4300 block of Versailles Avenue was struck while its owners were away on vacation between July 15 and 22. No one left a note. Damage estimate: $2,043.20.

Damaged between 3:30 and 4 p.m.: a BMW 740 while its owner shopped at Highland Park Village. No one left a note.

Shoplifted around 5:15 p.m.: a purple Gucci Marmont mini purse valued at $1,590 from Forty Five Ten at Highland Park Village. Shop personnel said the bag was discovered missing after a man and woman browsed for five minutes and then left.

UNIVERSITY PARK

20 Monday
Reported stolen at 1:51 p.m.: a Honda motorcycle valued at $6,000. The bike was taken from the 3400 block of Haynie Avenue between June 1 and Aug. 10 while the owner was at home in California for summer break.

21 Tuesday
At 5:21 p.m., a witness saw a 2016 silver Ferrari flee the scene after crashing into a 2006 Pontiac Vibe in the 3900 block of Caruth Boulevard. Damage estimate: $500 to the Pontiac.

25 Saturday
Arrested around 11:30 p.m.: a 19-year-old California man in the 6400 block of Golf Drive on charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of false identification.

26 Sunday
A 2003 Acura parked overnight in the 4400 block of Lomo Alto while its owner worked nearby was struck before 11:08 a.m. The culprit did not leave a note.

Stolen between 6:40 and 8:10 p.m.: a $300 Kate Spade purse with $1,000 in cash from a Plano woman’s 2015 Toyota in the 7900 block of Pickwick Lane.
